Oriel Care Home

Activities We actively encourage a lot more one to one person centred activity sessions within our program with painting, cookery, sewing, drawing and embracing new technology with e-mails and messages to loved ones living further away or abroad. We have dance movement, relaxation sessions and music appreciation from all genres on our weekly and monthly programme.

Sensory therapies are also a very important part of our programme, with aromatherapy massages being offered each week and various crafts and work with textiles.

Exercise is also a very important stimulation for our residents. Armchair exercise is offered regularly within our weekly exercise session along with music and is designed for careful movement of joints and muscles.

There are TV’s in each lounge area and selected viewing to suit all requirements is on hand. A large selection of DVD’s and CD’s for residents are available and a sporting calendar is carefully watched for anyone with interests in any particular event.  Books, monthly magazines and all genres of reading material are on hand covering all kinds of hobbies and interests and all readily available.

ActivitiesThere are garden areas and pots and shrubs for residents who enjoy a little outdoor gardening or growing a few vegetables or plants.

Here at Oriel we have a variety of quality entertainers and visitors offering music, dance, pantomimes and entertainment for our residents. We have sing-along, easy listening, swing, classical singers and groups and choirs. Music is always a very welcome component to our programmes and looked forward to by most of our residents.

Included amongst our regular visitors are local clergy from all denominations offering Holy Communion services once each month to residents.

We are also lucky to have a “Mercedes people carrier” here at Oriel which allows us to regularly take our residents out on trips to destinations of their choice, pub lunches, shopping trips, theatre visits, garden centres and coffee shops and further afield on day trips and holidays. We have a number of volunteers also who give their time willingly to accompany us on these trips and to occupy our residents, providing comfort and friendship.

ActivitiesOriel enjoys organising our well-known Summer Fete, which takes place in July each year. This event is supported by many local residents and charitable groups, offering a wonderful afternoon out to our residents as well. This is one of several events that we hold throughout the year including Easter celebrations, party nights, and Bank Holiday fun days. The resident’s individual birthdays are always a party time and of course, Christmas is always the very special time for us all.

Local school children play a large part in offering regular visits entertaining us with seasonal songs. We have regular contact with local schools and colleges offering students placements of work experience when studying Health and Social Care courses. Our in-house Activities Co-ordinator maintains constant contact with resident family and friends and invites them to attend any of the forthcoming activities and events that are here at Oriel Care home.
